Financial Inclusion and Agribusiness: The Wunizooya B Women’s VSLA Group shines with support from Tradeline.

In the serene community of Sognaayili, within the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly, a women’s group called Wunizooya B Women’s Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA), is changing the narrative of economic empowerment and agribusiness.

The group Wunizooya, meaning “Allah is great,” was formed in September 2022. Under the visionary leadership of their Chairperson, Talata, the group began by aggregating maize and rice, two essential crops for ensuring food security and supporting local markets. However, their ambition was hampered by limited financial resources, restricting their ability to procure and store large quantities of produce during peak seasons.

Recognizing their potential, Tradeline Consult stepped in as a strategic partner. In 2023, with Tradeline’s guidance, Wunizooya B secured their first loan of GHS 43,000 from the Tamale Community Credit Union. This funding was a turning point. With it, the group aggregated 234 bags of rice, generating significant profits that laid the foundation for future growth.

Buoyed by their initial success, they secured a second loan of GHS 27,000 in December 2024, enabling them to procure additional bags of rice and expand their operations into urban markets. Today, Wunizooya B is a trusted supplier, serving multiple cities and establishing themselves as key players in the regional agribusiness sector.

Impact and Achievements

  • Increased Aggregation Capacity: The group now aggregates substantial quantities of rice, fulfilling orders across urban centers.
  • Economic Empowerment: Members have seen a significant increase in income, allowing them to support their families and reinvest in their operations.
  • Market Expansion: Supplying rice to cities beyond their community has diversified their customer base, ensuring resilience against local market fluctuations.

Talata, the group’s Chairperson, reflects on their journey with pride:
“Tradeline Consult’s support has been life-changing. The loans gave us the opportunity to scale our business, increase our income, and empower ourselves as women. Today, we are not only feeding families but inspiring other women to believe in the power of unity and resilience.”

Wunizooya B’s aspirations extend far beyond their current achievements, as the group envisions a future of growth and impact. They plan to diversify into crops like soybeans and millet to broaden their market appeal, invest in modern storage facilities to minimize post-harvest losses, maintain quality,  train and mentor other women’s groups to promote financial independence and community development.

Additionally, they aim to collaborate with partners like Tradeline Consult to secure more funding and adopt advanced farming techniques, and ensure sustainable growth and long-term success..
