In a bold move to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the realities of Ghana’s agricultural job market, the World Food Program (WFP) launched the BRIDGE Project, a national initiative to rebrand and reposition the country’s major agricultural colleges. Tradeline Consult, a leading Ghanaian training and project delivery firm, is the lead implementing partner for this transformative program.
The project targets five key agricultural colleges in Ghana: Damongo, Wenchi, Ejura, Kwadaso, and Ohawu, equipping final-year students with essential job-entry skills while positioning the colleges as dynamic hubs for modern agricultural education.
The two-day training sessions in each college, facilitated by Tradeline Consult, covered multiple regions including Savannah, Bono, Ashanti, and Volta. The sessions reached over 2,000 students, offering interactive workshops on: writing impactful CVs and cover letters; navigating job applications and interviews; understanding workplace expectations and labor laws; and exploring the agricultural value chain and agribusiness opportunities.
Participants praised the training for its relevance and practicality. “It was eye-opening,” one student said. “For the first time, I now know the vast opportunities out there when I complete school as an agric student.”
Beyond career preparation, the BRIDGE Project also addresses institutional visibility. Each college will receive a professionally designed website featuring a career portal, a donor engagement hub, and a digital learning center. Media teams made up of students were trained to manage their colleges’ digital presence, ensuring that innovations, events, and opportunities are consistently shared with the public.
The rebranding initiative is part of WFP’s broader vision to make agricultural education in Ghana more attractive, visible, and industry-relevant. With industry partners such as Farmerline, Boris B Farms, GCX, Agrokings, and Newage, students had direct exposure to potential employers and mentors in the agribusiness sector.
Tradeline Consult’s Project Lead for the initiative, Amin Yahaya, stated that the project: “Tradeline Consult is proud to lead the implementation of this important WFP initiative. We’re not just preparing students to exit school. We’re preparing them to enter and shape the future of agriculture in Ghana.”
The five participating colleges are:
- Damongo Agricultural College (Savannah Region) – 314 student beneficiaries
- Wenchi Agricultural College (Bono Region) – 219 student beneficiaries
- Ejura Agricultural College (Ashanti Region) – 212 student beneficiaries
- Kwadaso Agricultural College (Ashanti Region) – 1,050 student beneficiaries
- Ohawu Agricultural College (Volta Region) – 234 student beneficiaries
